The countdown to EuroBasket 2013 is in full swing - less than a month to go!
News from Slovenia August 2013

The euphoria before EuroBasket 2013, the largest sporting event ever to be held in Slovenia`s history, is intensifying and the countdown is in full swing – and not only in Slovenia, Ljubljana and other host towns, but throughout the whole European basketball scene. Slovenia and hosting cities are ready for the Championship, to be held form 4 to 22 September. Come and feel basketball!

Three of world renowned Slovenian attractions have experienced important moments. Škocjan Caves are up for selection as the "Eighth Wonder of the World", Lipica Stud Farm has been awarded four-star rating and Certificate of Excellence by TripAdvisor, whereas Postojna Cave has hosted its 35 millionth visitor.

"As far as the eye can see, there is dreamy beauty, where is a more beautiful world to be found, is there a place more wondrous than home? …" Slovenia`s leading and world renowned vocal group Perpetuum Jazzile recently presented its jazz adaptation of one of the most popular songs in Slovenia – Avsenik`s eternal hit "Slovenia, whence thy beauty?" Postojna Cave hosts its 35 millionth visitor
Postojna cave, which is considered the most famous tourist cave in the world, Slovenias biggest tourist attraction and one of the biggest Karst monuments of the world, hosted its 35 millionth visitor in mid-July. After excellent May the results in June slow down
After excellent May, tourism statistics trends slow down in June and are slightly negative in total – but are positive regarding foreign visitors in Slovenia. Compared to June 2012, 1% fewer tourist arrivals and 2% fewer tourist overnight stays were registered in Slovenian tourist accommodations in June 2013. In the same comparison the number of foreign tourist arrivals and overnight stays increased by 4% and 3%, respectively, while the number of domestic tourist arrivals and overnight stays decreased 10% each. more...
