In the early days of 2012, Matevž Lenarčič, a biologist, environmentalists and photographer-pilot again set course in his small aircraft for a lonely flight around the world, this time in a westerly direction. Maribor has officially become the European Capital of Culture. Before us is a year of culture with hundreds of events taking place in six towns. Exploring the old city centre of Maribor has been placed among the “Top 10 things to do in 2012” by Lonely Planet. Maribor is “an unfound Slovenian pearl” according to Lonely Planet.

The Italian Yahoo ranked Slovenia among the top ten favourite 2012 destinations in light of the forecasts made by Italian tour operators, whereas according to the British survey conducted by Crystal Ski, a skiing vacation in Bulgaria, Andorra and Slovenia (in Bohinj) pays off the most.

In 2010, Ljubljana hosted 22 international events according to the International Congress and Convention Association statistics, while in 2011 this number increased to 35. In 2011, foreign tourists created 9% more overnight stays
In December 2011 tourists created 4% more tourist arrivals and 2% more overnight stays in tourist accommodations compared to December 2010. In 2011 (in the whole year), 7% more tourist arrivals and 5% more tourist overnight stays were recorded compared to 2010. In 2011, 9% more foreign tourist arrivals as well as overnight stays were registered in tourist accommodations compared to 2010. more...
